The Mount Washington (MWV) Recreation Path Corridor

The corridor (aka bike path) will run from Mt Cranmore to the Walmart.  Access can be achieved from the Northface parking lot by entering the trail near the tennis  courts

  Northface offers easy access to the bike path.  When put in perspective, it appears a benefit to Northface Owners.  Think of it this way; Northface property ends at the parking lot. The forested land has always been a bonus buffer zone for Northface.  But the land was going to eventually be developed – and the options appeared to be;
  • Four lane limited access highway
  • Bike path,
  • Something else, perhaps another set of condos out our back door

In 2006, the approved plan for this same strip of land was for a four lane limited highway. For us at Northface, the highway would have run in the same location as the bike path.   The plan was to construct the North-South Road first (Phase 4A on the map) and then do a four lane by-pass around North Conway with one exit at Mt Cranmore (Phase 7). There were some owners (The Powers – lived in Building 4) who moved to Northface from their home on Thompson Road because their land was needed to construct the 4 lane by-pass over Thompson Road.

Due to several reasons, including funding, the by-pass plans were scrapped. But the Town had received Federal Funds for the by-pass land which had to be repaid since the by-pass was not going to be constructed -  unless the land was still going to be used for a transportation corridor.  The recreation corridor was the option selected.  While some owners might not be pleased with the bike path proximity,  but it locks in the land and we still benefit from a forested view. And if you are a fan of the bike path, what could be more convenient that the current location!

There has been discussion to increase the length of the bike path.  It was announced in the Summer of 2022 that funds had been obtained to extend the northern end from Mt Cranmore to the scenic vista
