Always use care when hiking Mt. Washington - while extremely beautiful country, the weather can turn quickly.  Always bring adequate clothing and emergency gear. If in doubt, check with the Appalachian Club at Pinkham Notch (The trail head).  Weather in June can be 70+ in the valley but 32 degrees with 89 mph winds on the mountain!

Huntington Ravine Trail

Beautiful vistas at every turn - But the steepest trail in the White Mountains - Go up only - never plan on going down this trail

The AMC trail guide states:

  • This is the most difficult regular hiking trail in the White Mountains.  Many of the ledges demand proper use of handholds for safe passage.

  • Do not attempt this trail if you tend to feel queasy on ledges on ordinary trails.

  • This trail is very dangerous when wet or icy, and its use for descent at any time is strongly discouraged.

Trail distance from Pinkham Notch to the Summit of Mt Washington is 4.3 miles (4 hrs, 15 minutes).
